Ngāti Awa, Te Whānau a Apanui
‘Toi ki te Ao’ 2019, Acrylic, Graphite, gold leaf on Canvas
This work acknowledges the people that come together to celebrate our culture in the form of Kapa Haka. It represents the tides that flow in and our of Te Whanganui a Tara that bring iwi and hapu and the multitudes into this massive kaupapa.

Our tamariki, mokopuna inspire me in my practice. As artist we have the tools and the power to tell stories, to record whakapapa and oral histories. This ultimately is left for our tamariki who hold the key to tomorrows world. The work I do is a taonga I leave for them.
The Art – What does this mean to the artist?
Maori art is a space where I open my heart, and my soul is exposed. It is an expression of who I am, where I come from and who I will become. Maori art is ME.
