ABOUT IHOREI
Ihorei Gallery is located in the heart of Te Aro, Wellington city - Taranaki St. Ihorei is anchored on the idea of indigenising
homes and modern spaces with Māori art, creativity and expressions.
Our kaupapa is to elevate Māori artists, celebrate mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) and live by our uara Māori (Māori values).
We aspire to champion and grow the value and visibility of Māori art in our communities.
HE TOI WHAKAIRO,
HE MANA TANGATA
OUR KAUPAPA
Ihorei can mean 'person of rank, leader or important chief'.
We recognise and acknowledge our Māori artists as Ihorei who are leaders in their art forms, whānau and iwi.
Our artists are placed at the pinnacle of Māoridom. They teach us to be critical, to interrogate, to push boundaries,
to express meaningfully and deeply. They are the quintessence of Māoridom.
Ihorei Gallery is a place for our artists to visit, share, talk story, and elevate Māori Art Excellence.
Founders Acushla & Tumarangai Sciascia welcome you to be part of our journey,
Nau mai ki Ihorei
